Nottingham Rugby is pleased to announce the signing of
Toby Freeman from Rotherham Titans on a contract until the end of
Freeman, who is comfortable in the back
row or second row, has joined the Green and Whites as they look to
bolster an area of the squad where they are low on numbers.
Nottingham Head Coach Martin Haag said, "Toby was someone that
we looked at around the end of last season. He was up at
Rotherham and wasn't getting much game time so for us to bring
someone fresh in, who wants to come and join us, is fantastic and I
thought his performance the other day against Bedford was
encouraging. He showed very good physicality, very good work
rate; good energy and he lifted a lot of the lads so I was very
pleased with his first outing."
Freeman who measures in at 197cm tall and 112kg, counts Exeter
Chiefs and Ampo Ordizia amongst his previous clubs.
He said, "I was frustrated with the amount of game time I was
getting up at Rotherham. I'd spoken to Martin a couple of
times during the season and it got to the point where I just asked
him if he needed any players and if there was an opportunity to get
some game time, so I came down here last week and got in the mix
"It could have been snowing, it could have been hailing; I was
just happy to get on the field, happy to get to run around and get
to put some hits in. It went well and although we didn't get
the win, we came away with the losing bonus point and I was
personally happy with my performance.
"One performance isn't enough, so hopefully I can build on that
for the remainder of the season. I just want to keep myself
in the mix and keep playing good rugby. That's the whole
reason I've come down here, I just want to be playing rugby and I
also want to be involved with good coaches, and I've very much got
the impression we have them here after just a week.
"Having Martin around is perfect for me. He's played the
position, he knows the ins and outs of it and he's hopefully going
to help me push on.
"It's always pretty hard when you rock up as the new guy but the
lads have been good. It's like going to your first day of
school, only you're a little bit older! I'm really enjoying
my time, and even though I've only been here a week, it's probably
the most I've enjoyed a rugby week in quite a long time, so
hopefully that will keep going."
