Home for Shaw

Home For Shaw1Alex Shaw is now in his fourth season with Nottingham Rugby having joined from Premiership outfit Sale Sharks back in 2010.

The big number 8, renowned for his non-stop work rate and barnstorming ball carrying, has enjoyed a prolonged period of regular first team rugby, which was lacking during his time at Premiership outfits Sale Sharks and Leicester Tigers.

He said, "I've really enjoyed playing regularly at Nottingham. I didn't get many chances earlier in my career whilst at Sale and Leicester. The chance to play regular first team rugby was one of the things that attracted me to Nottingham. I feel that it has helped me improve my game and running out at Meadow Lane in front of our home fans is always a special occasion."

Competition for places in the back row is currently very tough, with captain Brent Wilson, tough tackling Rupert Cooper and local Mansfield lad Tom Calladine all fighting for places with Shaw. But Shaw feels the competitive nature of the back row is bringing the best out of them all.

"Everyone is playing very well in the back row, so competition for places is very tough. But it's bringing the best out of us which can only be a good thing for the team. And, although results haven't gone our way since the opening day victory against Leeds, our performances in the last few games have been improving. If we continue to work hard in training the results will come on the pitch."
