Meet Nelly

Standing at around 6ft 5 Neilus Keogh has a big presence and is certainly a big character within his new team. The big Irish man has enjoyed a gruelling preseason with the Green and Whites and is looking forward to getting his teeth into The Championship season. Speaking of the two preseason games Neilus said, "the Irish game was an eye opener into the level that we want to get to, it's been useful to get our systems nailed down and gel the new players into how we want to play. The Loughborough game was a step forward in terms of our preparation and although we have things to work on we were happy with how we played."

Neilus grew up in Limerick and played in Dublin before spending time as a part time player with Leinster. When full time rugby came calling in the form of Lazio in Italy it was an offer he could refuse. He was at the Italian capital for only one season but found it a great rugby and life experience, "Living in Rome was an enjoyable experience and exposing myself to another rugby culture was a huge benefit, I learnt a lot in terms of forward play while playing in the Italian league."

Having followed The Championship closely whilst he was living in Italy, Neilus was impressed with the quality and style of rugby played by Nottingham, so when the opportunity came to move back to the UK he jumped at the chance, "I followed the championship last year a good bit and I really enjoyed the rugby that Nottingham played. I had heard good things about the culture of the club from various people. Also having Martin Haag, an ex second row, as head coach proved very enticing for me as it would help my development. So far so good as I cannot speak highly enough of the coaching and the lads at the club."
