Nottingham Rugby Sign Viliame Iongi

Nottingham Rugby is delighted to confirm the signing of Tongan international winger Viliame Iongi for the 2014/15 season.

Iongi, 25, has been capped 18 times by Tonga and has scored eight tries, including four on debut against the USA.  He has played for the Scarlets and Queanbeyan Whites in Australia and also spent time in the ACT Brumbies' Academy.

Nottingham Head Coach Martin Haag said, "Viliame is a great signing for Nottingham.  We have been looking at him for two years and I'm pleased that we are finally able to welcome him into the squad.  David Jackson's retirement left us a little short on options in the back three, and while nobody can fill Jacko's boots, we have someone coming in who will be able to excite the crowd just as much.

"Viliame is a great finisher, has incredible pace and power and only needs one opportunity to take a chance.  I'm excited that a player of his calibre will be joining Nottingham and I'm certain the fans will enjoy seeing him play."

Iongi is the second new recruit to be announced by the club for next season after the signing of Dan Mugford from Plymouth was confirmed last week.  The news also comes days after the confirmation that Michael Holford, Campese Ma'afu, Shaun Malton, Sean Romans and Finlay Barnham have signed new deals with the club.
