Swapping Tackle Bags for Press Releases

Having only retired from professional rugby just before Christmas, it hasn't taken David 'Jacko' Jackson long to find creative and exciting ways to fill up the free time he found himself with.

During his playing days, Jackson became a firm fan's favourite at the Meadow Lane club for his performances on the field, but also for the creative and entertaining activities that he masterminded off it.

Given his proven abilities at generating interest in the club, it is no surprise to see that he has been snapped up by the club's marketing and media department to help them build their fan base and profile.  He will also be working with the club's community department to develop their profile and support their initiatives.

Jackson said, "The chance to stay involved with Nottingham Rugby is something that I am both very grateful for and passionate about.  Having been at the club my whole life I want to give something back and feel that I can use my experience of the club to help us grow off the field, now that I can no longer help on the field. I am extremely grateful to the Club and Simon Beatham for this opportunity."

On top of his work with the Green and Whites, Jackson will be undertaking work experience one day a week with OneAthlete, where he will be helping to develop their athlete lifestyle and mentoring programme alongside renowned strength and conditioning coach Tim Stevenson, who counts local Paralympic Champion, Richard Whitehead, as one of his charges.

Jackson continued, "The opportunity to work alongside Tim Stevenson, Richard Whitehead and Gemma Telford to gain experience in strength and conditioning, as well as the mentoring of athletes, is an opportunity I couldn't turn down.

The concept of integrated support for an athlete, comprising of everything from strength and conditioning and physio, through to mentoring, is something I see real value in. It's been tough adjusting to life after professional rugby but I am now excited to get my teeth stuck into both opportunities I've been kindly given by Nottingham Rugby and OneAthlete."
