The Green and Whites Get CrossFit

Nottingham Rugby recently spent the day being put through their paces at the local CrossFit gym as they ramped up their preparations ahead of the new season.

CrossFit Nottingham is a strength and conditioning facility open to all levels of fitness. The programme includes weight lifting, gymnastics and metabolic conditioning. The focus is on functional movements and results. CrossFit is delivered in a group environment but assimilates personal training sessions.

Nottingham's new Strength and Conditioning Coach, Andy Smith, commented, "Our session at CrossFit Nottingham was an excellent addition to the tough pre-season schedule that the Nottingham Rugby players have been exposed to over the last four weeks.

"Our whole focus during early pre-season has been to develop a team culture of hard work, discipline and team spirit and Katie's team at CrossFit Nottingham have done a great job in delivering a session for our players that met those specific requirements. The facility is fantastic and I'm sure the lads really enjoyed the change of venue and the challenge of a different approach to their training."

New signing, Billy Robinson was very impressed with the session and enthused, "I really enjoyed my experience at CrossFit Nottingham. The facility and staff were great, and helped to create a really positive, hard-working atmosphere.

"We've had an excellent first few weeks of preseason. The coaching staff has really challenged the players to work hard and set a high standard in everything we do, and I think the squad have responded really well and put in a lot of hard work and effort, which should prepare us well for the coming season.

"Getting fit is never easy, and sometimes it can be an arduous process, so it's really refreshing to try new training methods like CrossFit. I think I speak on behalf of all the lads when I say that it was a tough and interesting challenge and a really good experience for the squad."

Katie Baggott of CrossFit Nottingham said, "CrossFit Nottingham delivered a bespoke conditioning session to Nottingham Rugby Club as part of their pre season training. The WODs (Workout of the Day) were devised by two CrossFit Rugby experts and included movements relative to the player's demands. Movements included heavy lifts, fireman carries, and rowing.

"After an hour of hard work, we believe we achieved our aim. The team showed real grit in the latter end of the gruelling workout, not that we would expect anything less. We enjoyed the session immensely and look forward to working with the team again in the future."

Nottingham Rugby and CrossFit Nottingham would like to say a huge thank you to Samuel Goulding and Max Abbott who led the session for the players.
