Nottingham Rugby

Code of Conduct

Players Code

  • Try to turn up 10 minutes prior to the time agreed on match days and training. Never turn up late for training.
  • Participate seriously in warm up sessions before matches and training. It avoids injuries and helps focus the mind.
  • It is your responsibility to bring protective gear, i.e. gum shields.
  • Wear the correct coloured shorts, and socks during match days
  • Act responsibly before and after games. You represent the Nottingham Rugby Club at all times.
  • Wear a shirt and tie on match days as instructed.
  • Play within the laws and spirit of the game, even if it appears that your opponents are not.
  • Respect the decisions of the referee. Do not openly question his decisions. Your captain may approach the referee to clarify a decision.
  • Support your fellow players. Rugby is a team game, without your team mates (good and not so good) you will not have a game to play in. Remember junior players progress at different rates.
  • Win or lose - try your best, and maintain a positive attitude. It’s all we can ask.
  • Recognise good play by your teammates and opponents alike.
  • Don’t bully, or criticise weaker players. Encourage them; it will improve your team.
  • Support and respect your coaches.
  • Score tries with pleasure, not wild celebration. Celebrate with a handshake.
  • Always applaud your opponents after a match.
  • There is no place for physical violence in any shape or form.
  • Above all ENJOY YOUSELF.

  • Parents Code

  • Try to avoid shouting and yelling from the touchline.
  • Encourage your child to understand the rules and spirit of the game.
  • Don’t over pressurise your child. The game should be played for the child’s enjoyment not your entertainment.
  • Support the club, and coaches as appropriate.
  • Support the referee, and respect his/her decisions. Do not criticise the referee as it sends out a negative example to impressionable youngsters.
  • Recognise good play irrespective of whose team it may be.
  • Recognise effort, and positive attitude in defeat or victory.
  • Recognise the difficulty in team selection. Average players need just as much match day experience as the stars of the team. Player development is more important than team winning.
  • Above all ENJOY YOURSELF.

  • Coaches code

  • Encourage, and support all players.
  • Don’t ridicule, or overly criticise players.
  • Be aware of the physical, mental limitations of players. Juniors will develop at different rates.
  • Don’t overly support the better players.
  • Be approachable.
  • Recognise weaknesses in players/team play, and formulate a training plan to improve those weaknesses.
  • Aim primarily to develop individual skill, and team spirit. Winning is a bonus, not the essence.
  • Above all ENJOY YOURSELF.

  • Nottingham RFC follows the strict guidelines set down by the Rugby Union for the protection and involvement of children under 18 in our teams.
