The NTU Rugby Pathway to Nottingham Rugby has produced yet another prospect through Cieran Barry, as he has signed his first professional rugby contract with the club, upon the completion of his university degree.

Cieran had a stellar career for NTU, leading the team as Captain / Vice-Captain this previous season, and having some solid performances throughout the year. Cieran also took a placement year as part of his degree, where he was able to further develop his rugby with Terenure College R.F.C in Dublin, in the Energia AIL.

“The NTU x Nottingham Rugby pathway has genuinely changed my life. When I arrived at NTU, I wasn’t on anyone’s radar and didn’t have many prospects in the rugby world — but the programme gave me the platform, exposure and coaching to grow into the player I am today. That pathway is the reason I’ve now signed my first Nottingham Rugby contract.

At the same time, NTU supported me through a four‑year degree with a placement year, which equipped me not only to perform at a professional level on the pitch, but also to step confidently into the role of Marketing & Ticketing Manager at Nottingham Rugby. The environment at NTU pushed me to develop both as an athlete and as a professional, and I’m incredibly proud to continue that journey at The Bay next season.”
