David, a farmer’s son, grew up in the hotbed of Scottish Rugby – the Scottish Borders. He was educated at Welbeck Sixth Form Defence College Nottinghamshire before being commissioned into the Royal Air Force Regiment. At age 19, he played his military rugby alongside and against International and British Lions players of that amateur era until a serious injury curtailed his playing career.
He commanded units on operational service in Northern Ireland, Cyprus, Arctic Norway and Central America, specialising in counter insurgency and force protection. His last tour of duty was with the UK Harrier Force serving worldwide. He then worked for 25 years in senior management for blue chip companies involved in the supply chain management and logistics industry.
David initiates projects within the Club and the local Community. He is also part of the small team researching the Club’s rich history and heritage since its formation in 1877.
He has a keen interest in nature conservation and has served on regional and national committee of many countryside organisations throughout the UK.
