Last season’s Championship new-boys finished in 5th place in their first Greene King IPA Championship season after winning National League 1 the season before. They recorded impressive back-to-back victories against Bedford Blues and Coventry in December and January during the 2019/20 season followed up by a 30-26 win over Doncaster Knights in late Jan.

Their final game, before the season was postponed, ended in a 13-30 defeat at the hands of third-placed Cornish Pirates.

Nottingham and Ampthill only met once last season, which was on the opening day – a game which ended in victory for Neil Fowkes’ men (44-20) thanks to a fine kicking display from Tommy Matthews.

After the league table was decided on Points Per Game (PPG), Ampthill eventually finished on 58.34 points, one place above Nottingham who finished on 50.88.

Ampthill have recently signed lock Charlie Beckett for the coming season. The 25-year-old started his rugby career at Leicester Academy, before making the move to Gloucester where he was made captain of their A-League side.

Throughout 2018 he represented Jersey Reds and went on to make 41 appearances, scoring two tries in the process. He most-recently donned the shirt of Gloucester in the Gallagher Premiership, having re-joined to finish off the extended season.

We will face Ampthill at Dillingham Park on the weekend of 20th March.
