Nottingham Rugby are delighted to announce that Craig Hammond has signed a new deal at the club, keeping him as our Head Coach until 2027.
Craig became our Head Coach at the beginning of the 2021/2022 season, having taken over from Neil Fowkes, and has since become one of the most integral elements of this rugby club.
Director of Rugby, Simon Beatham, quoted “ever since he came over to Nottingham from New Zealand as an under 21, Craig has had the biggest influence on this club as both a player and a coach.”
“He has created a squad that everyone is proud of, the way they conduct themselves on and off the pitch.”
“Craig represents everything we want to be as a club.”
His playing career at Nottingham began on 27th August 2001 away against Plymouth Albion and he then went on to make 289 appearances as a player for the club between 2001 and 2012, of which he was captain for 277.
When asked what influenced him to sign a new deal with the club, Craig replied “we’re happy here, myself, Rosey, Mia, Bella and Lockie, we’re in a good place as a family and we see Nottingham as our home.”
“As a coach, you can’t turn down opportunities like this. It was a no-brainer really once I’d chatted it through with my family, and I’m looking forward to the next couple of years.”
Since taking over as Head Coach, Craig has been in charge of the team for 98 competitive fixtures, the first of which being at home against Ampthill on 17th September 2021.
