HEAD Coach Neil Fowkes has offered his reaction to Nottingham’s 31-15 defeat to Ampthill at Dillingham Park.

The Green and Whites got off to a flying start as Luke Mehson scored a debut try just seven minutes in to the contest. Alex Dolly successfully kicked a penalty just six minutes later and Nottingham saw themselves 10-0 ahead.

But the home side fought back and scored two tries before half time to give them the lead going in to the break.

Fowkes said: “I thought we started the game really well and scored a good try through Luke Mehson on his debut after some quick thinking from Ed Coulson. Unfortunately, we failed to capitalise on the time we had on the ball and we made too many unforced errors.

“We couldn’t build any pressure or get any momentum going. They (Ampthill) were very good at what they did and they capitalised on the chances they got. They mauled very hard and we kept them at bay but if you give a good team like that too many chances you’re going to struggle.

“We’ve got to dust ourselves down and get stuck in to Coventry on Saturday.”
