Nottingham Head Coach Neil Fowkes says he was pleased with the Green ‘N’ Whites performance after they beat London Scottish 17-14 in a tight game at The Bay on Friday night.

A penalty and two successful conversions from Tom Matthews with tries from Luke Peters and Luke Cole sealed a deserved win under the floodlights on Trentside.

Neil Fowkes said: “We’re really pleased with that performance out there, it was really gritty and it took a lot of hard work to get over the line but it just shows the heart and togetherness of these boys, and just how tough they are.”

The visitors picked up a bonus point at The Bay after a late try and conversion, and Fowkes praised London Scottish for their attacking intent and willingness to win away from home.

“London Scottish are a decent side and they very much came here looking for the win so the boys had to dig deep,” said Fowkes. He added: “We were down at half time having had a couple of changes and some things we could have converted but it’s excellent that the boys stuck in there to win it against a good Scottish side. The way they stuck at it was everything we’d worked on this week to get the result.”

Despite two league victories from two games, Fowkes isn’t going to get carried away with the Nottingham’s 100% record to the 2019/20 season.

He said: “It’s a long season and two victories in the league is brilliant and sets us up nicely but we’ve got to go Hartpury next week, a place we haven’t won before, so that’s a different challenge for the boys there and then we go in to three tough games after that. We’ve just got to keep working at getting better every time we get out on the field and really stay tough and together as much as we can.”
