Nottingham Rugby is saddened to learn of the passing of former player Christopher James ‘Chris’ BAYNES.  Born 24th November 1946, Gillingham, Kent and educated at Gillingham Grammar School & Loughborough Colleges.

Chris played for the club 145 times at 1st XV level making his final appearance against Abertillery at Ireland Avenue in 1978, where the Green and Whites won 16 points to 7.

During his time at Nottingham, Baynes scored a total of 124 points (31 tries in merit table, cup and club matches) and was also club captain in season 1977-78, whilst also representing Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and Derbyshire Seniors whom he also captained. 

Baynes was a teacher at Trent College before becoming a financial consultant.  He was also a member of RFU’s U-21 panel and Chairman of Midland Divisional U-21’s, putting a considerable amount back into the game.

The clubs’ thoughts are with Chris’ family and friends.
