Created by legendary kicking coach Dave Alred, the mastermind behind world class players Jonny Wilkinson and Jonny Sexton and kicking coach for the Queensland Reds, the School of Kicking’s mission is to provide specialist kicking coaching for players from grassroots to international level.
Utilising Dave’s proven coaching methods, son Stuart Alred, a former professional rugby player and now coach of Exeter University leads the School of Kicking workshops alongside Tony Yapp who played for 12 seasons including at England U21 level and scored over 3,000 points in his career.
Nottingham Rugby will play host to three School of Kicking workshops from February 21st to 22nd for ages 13-16 and 16+. Alongside the 16+ workshop there will be also be a coaching development workshop, demonstrating how to deliver a ‘one of a kind’ coaching session and the framework for kicking development.
Nottingham Rugby’s Chief Operating Officer Steve Smith said, “We are delighted to lend our facilities to the School of Kicking. The quality of coaching that they provide is fantastic and will provide local players with the opportunity to learn from coaches who have played and worked at the highest level of the sport”.
School of Kicking’s Tony Yapp has said “We’re grateful to Nottingham Rugby for allowing us access to their ground and for giving us a platform here in Nottingham to deliver our coaching to players who will most benefit from it. Nottingham has a really strong rugby community and we’re looking forward to working with some of the talent coming through the ranks here.”
The workshops kickstart an exciting year for the School of Kicking with a free beginners guide due to be released in the next week which will provide world class coaching points with videos which will demonstrate multiple kicking techniques and tips taken from those at the top of their game.
The 16+ workshop and coaching session will take place on February 21st followed by the 13-16 year-old workshop on February 22nd. Nottingham Rugby will be hosting the sessions at their home ground in Lady Bay at 1 Holme Road, NG25AA.
