Neil Fowkes has named his team that will face Yorkshire Carnegie at The Bay tomorrow evening.

Nottingham host Yorkshire in the Championship Cup, 7:45pm kick off and Neil Fowkes is expecting a tough game. Speaking ahead of the game, he said: “It’s really exciting to finally be playing a game after 15 weeks of pre-season. We had a good hit-out at Wasps on Friday so a big thanks to them for giving us that opportunity, that was really beneficial.

“We’ve picked a squad this week and we’ll be changing that up against London Scottish next week. Our whole idea is to give all of our boys as much game time over the cup games. There are a few boys with a couple of niggles so they may not appear this week or next week but they might come back in to in the Pirates round. We want to see all the boys play over this period and see what they’re about in the green and white shirt out on the pitch.”

New signings Ben Foley and Mat Clark feature in the starting line-up, and Neil Fowkes is looking forward to seeing the new faces in action: “We’re really excited to see both of those guys go. They’ve both come in and have got experience in the Championship so we’re excited to see them play and how they fit in to our system and shape on attack. There’s plenty of names on the team sheet that have been regulars for us so we’re excited to see how the blend comes together.”

19-year-old Alfie Barbeary has joined Nottingham on a dual-registration from Wasps. Alfie Barbeary joined Wasps’ Senior Academy squad for the 2019/20 season. The Wasps Under 18s graduate scored on his Wasps first-team debut against Gloucester Rugby at Kingsholm in the Premiership Rugby Cup in October 2018.

Barbeary came off the bench four times in Wasps A’s 2018/19 Premiership Rugby Shield campaign, scoring one try.

On the new signing, Neil Fowkes said: “We’ve got a good relationship with Tigers and Wasps for dual-registered players and Alfie is the first one to come through from Wasps.

“He’s god good pedigree in terms of age-grade internationals and the young man still has two years to go at under 20s so we’re really excited to see him. He’s a big boy, he carries well and he really hits hard. We’re looking at helping him with his development but also him helping us with being successful and winning games.”
