Nottingham lock Tom Holmes has been named club captain ahead of the 2019/20 season.

Tom began playing rugby for local side Sandbach RFC, leading to him being scouted by Premiership giants Sale Sharks at the age of just 16.

He then represented England at U16 and U18 level until a severe ankle injury left him on the sidelines for six months at U20 level. Holmes bounced back however, going on to play for Sedgley Park and, after resigning from the Sharks, joining Rotherham Titans in 2014, where he made a respectable 52 starts before leaving Clifton Lane for Lady Bay.

This will be Tom’s 4th season at The Bay, and his second as captain.

The 29-year-old said: “I really like the club and the lads and coaching staff. I really get on with Fowksey so to stay here for the second year of my contract is great and I will always try to do it to the best of my ability.

“He (Neil Fowkes) did well last year for his first year. He’s got a good buy-in from the lads and we’ve got a good relationship with Nottingham Trent Uni which works well for us and he understands that coming from that job prior.

“He knows this league having played in it and coached in it for a while and he knows how tough it is. When we get on a good roll we go well.”
