Green and Whites fly-half Shane O’Leary has been called up to represent the Canadian national team ahead of the 2019 Rugby World Cup repechage tournament next month in Marseille, France.

The Greene King IPA Championship top scorer (102 points after nine matches), has enjoyed a strong start to the season and has quickly established himself as a key player in a backline that has performed well so far, including a breath-taking performance against Ealing Trailfinders on Friday 26 October.

The tournament will see Hong Kong, Canada, Kenya and Germany compete in a round-robin format event to be played across three match days on Sunday 11 November, Saturday 17 November and Friday 23 November, 2018.

The winner will join Pool B at RWC 2019 alongside defending champions New Zealand, South Africa, Italy and Namiba.

The repechage tournament is a new concept for Rugby World Cup qualification and represents the last opportunity for a team to qualify for Japan 2019 with four nations fighting it out to secure the 20th and final place at the Rugby World Cup.

The club would like to wish Shane and his Canadian teammates the best of luck in the competition.

Nottingham Rugby would also like to wish Cameron Dolan the best of luck as he represents the USA in their upcoming Autumn Internationals. The club would like to thank Cam for his service over the last six weeks and wish him the best for the future.
